At the Google Next 2024 conference, held from April 9-11 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, we had the chance to engage with industry leaders and explore emerging technologies. Among the standout participants was Geotab, represented by Varun Dommaraju, who detailed their advanced telematics solutions.
Geotab specializes in vehicle tracking and data-driven insights. Their Go device, which plugs into a vehicle's onboard diagnostic (OBD) port, is equipped with GPS and an accelerometer. This device collects essential engine data directly from the CAN bus, filtering out non-critical information to provide fleet managers with precise insights. This approach ensures that only relevant data reaches Geotab's platform, enabling more accurate and actionable analytics.
A significant highlight of Geotab's showcase was its focus on sustainability. They are developing tools to assist fleets in reducing their carbon footprint. One such tool analyzes existing fleets and suggests electric vehicles to replace internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, supporting a transition towards greener operations. Also, Geotab’s solutions help reduce fuel consumption by identifying inefficiencies such as excessive idling and optimizing routing to minimize fuel use.
Varun also shared his reflections on the conference, noting the overwhelming yet inspiring experience of exploring innovations in generative AI and other technologies. He expressed excitement about the advancements and the valuable knowledge gained from engaging with other tech leaders and partners.
